Defence cables commonly referred to as defence standard cables or def-stan cables originate from extensive usage within ministry of defence (MOD) applications commonly requiring equipment wires and flexible multicore cables.
Defence standard multicore cables are used within instrumentation, aerospace, process control and military vehicle applications.
Def Stan cables have grown in popularity over the years being a high spec, flexible cable and as such, these cables are now being utilised in many different industrial applications and are available in different configurations and materials varying away from the original standards.
Equipment wires are manufactured to BS4808 Defence standard 61-12 part 6.
Multicore cables are manufactured to Def stan 61-12 parts 4 & 5. These cables are primarily offered in PVC and Low Smoke Zero Halogen jackets. Type A (unscreened), type C (braid shielded), type D (individual braid shielded) and type S (foil screened) versions are available.
