Are solar cables different from regular cables?
Yes, solar cables differ from typical cables. They are specifically made to withstand the strict operating needs of photovoltaic (PV) solar systems, such as exposure to outdoor elements, changing temperatures, and ultraviolet radiation. They are usually made from materials like cross-linked polyethylene or thermoplastics to allow for longer life and to perform safely in more extreme environments. Solar cables are also rated for higher voltage and usually meet international standards, such as UL 4703 or IEC 60269 – thus assuring safe handling of electrical loads from solar panels.
What cables are used in wind turbines?
Similarly to our offshore cable manufacturing – cables for wind turbines are generally made from (but not limited to) polyolefin (PO) or ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), whilst onshore turbines may opt for LSZH insulated and sheathed constructions to protect in the event of fire.
