Instrumentation Cable – (Process control cable, Communication cables)
Instrumentation cables are primarily designed to carry both communication and control signals. The types of cable are used mainly within industrial process control.
These types of cables can consist of a single twisted pairs ranging right up to multi pair configurations.
Instrumentation cables may be screened either individually (individually screened twisted pairs) via an Aluminium Mylar tape with a drain wire or collectively with a tinned Copper braid screen. They would usually contain a PVC jacket yet alternative materials are available such as LSOH where the emission of toxic smoke and halogens is prevented within a fire situation.
